The movie is interesting because it offers explanations and glimpse of the past before the formalisation of the group we all adore – the X-Men. I have learnt that Raven, which called herself as Mystique, and other mutants were the ones who coined the names Magneto and Professor X. The brother of Cyclops – Alex Summers – was named as Havoc because of his havoc-provoking laser beams. The female Angel was called as such because of her flight abilities, but she should have been Dragonfly because of the appearance of her wings. Was the kissing of Magneto and Mystique the start of their love affair and would later result to Rogue as their offspring? Of the notable X-Men members that include Cyclops, Jean Grey and Storm, only Wolverine had a cameo appearance. And Beast was the one who designed the X-Men stealth vehicle, Cerebro and the first set of their costume.
I did look for more actions and fight sequences. And I hate the part when the CIA headquarters was attacked and the mutants could not do anything. All they did was stand in the corner and scream a bit and then run to seemingly escape. Worse was when the guy with hardened skin pretended to like the group of the enemies to save Dragonfly – err, Angel – only to end up dead because Sebastian Shaw fed him the beams released by Havoc. Yes, that Sebastian guy has one of the coolest powers – he absorbs energy and releases it when he likes it with the same intensity.
Another dragging scene was when Magneto (that’s Erik) confronted Sebastian. Charles was trying to read Sebastian’s mind but to his dismay because the head of his subject was covered with a headgear made from Russia. When Erik managed to remove it, Charles was very quick in telling him that he could not hold him for a long time. Erik slowly picked the headgear as if he was in a pass-over ceremony showing the moviegoers that he indeed got it (for his personal use for the rest of his life). | Start: | Sep 12, '11 08:00a | | End: | Sep 12, '11 12:30p | | Location: | Hyatt Hotel Manila |

Ang Babae sa Septic Tank (literally The Woman In The Septic Tank) is Eugene Domingo as herself. To quote her, “Papatay ako para sa role na ito.” Indeed, this film came out so timely that even the actors did not expect it to be so inescapably good and a craft at its best.
This marked my first time to see a film with the lead actor playing a role with a characterisation spectrum reaching heights beyond one could ever imagine. Yes, Eugene Domingo plays the part of Eugene Domingo. While watching, you cannot think if the Eugene Domingo onscreen is the Eugene Domingo in real life, the one whom you could talk to when you are feeling blue or red or whatever colour you can think of. When you offer her a project, does she really go through it? And if she likes the script, does she really collaborate to make the film better? But does she hold a degree in film-making so she could make appropriate comments or suggestions? Or are these based only on her experience as one of the most-sought after actors in the present times? And does she really require a tent with air-conditioning unit?
Ang Babae sa Septic Tank chronicles the making of the film entitled Walang-Wala with its director Kean Cipriano, executive producer JM De Guzman and assistant Cai Cortez. Mr Epert’s “Two thumbs up!” comment is always anticipated and asked to be included in posters and promotional materials of Hollywood films. I am sure that he is going to like this film. But how could the promotional team include it if the poster is like the third poster presented in the film. Is “I Who Have Nothing” appropriate as its international title? Could it lead to standing ovation in film festivals like Oscars, Toronto, Cairo etc? | Start: | Sep 6, '11 | | Location: | Traders Hotel, Pasay City |

"THE apparent inability of majority of Metro Manila local governments to respond quickly and fully to citizen requests for asset disclosure records of local officials, as well as documents on education, health, public safety and other essential services may well be a reflection of the Aquino administration’s own dithering over a Freedom of Information (FOI) law." The Ads Standards Council of the Philippines has made guidelines on billboards. This was a result of public outcry over the numerous ads showing sexiness and everything that triggers thoughts about sex. Some of the billboards that have been taken down by the Metro Manila Development Authority include underwear ads featuring the Philippine Volcanoes, the country's rugby team, another one featuring Angel Locsin and Anne Curtis.
According to ASC, MMDA does not have the right to form a committee focused on billboards because this might only cause red tape (longer processing for billboard installment). ASC panel is also comprised of professional screeners from the industry who are primarily tasked to ensure the truth in advertising. According to the report of ABS-CBN News, the panel is composed of Virgie Velasco, Msgr Suplido, Lito Yabut, Neil Galvez, Gigi Garcia, Gold Roldan, JR Hernandez, Raul Alvarez, Glen Fernando and Sandra Puno.
ASC stated that they will check billboards more carefully as these are seen by the public, including children.
But what is wrong with billboards of a woman in underwear or Adam in brief?

The film also shows the connections of Freemasons to Christianity, the Knight Templars, Satanism, George Washington, Sir Isaac Newton, Solomon's Temple and the conspiracy theory - of bringing the world into a new order.
In the documentary, it is shown that when the cornerstone for the capitol of the United States, George Washington performed a Masonic ritual that involves maize (representing abundance), oil (representing peace) and wine (representing happiness). Find out how the Freemasons are involved in the theory that a certain group of people is trying to control the US and the world. (Rey Clarin) I never doubted my capacities, but sometimes, I fail. Situations just plainly ignore me and turn me against what I believe in and stand for – a happy life. When things get wrong, I swagger in the road of life and mess up everything. I become a peg that cannot get out from where it was stuck into. 3 Idiots showed me a revitalised trick on how to win over the easily-frightened thing called Heart. Rancho gave a piece of advice to his friends when everything’s become fuzzy – just utter ‘ All is well’ – and this, yes, does not solve a problem, but gives you the courage to face it. In a fictional Imperial College of Engineering in modern-day India, everything in life is determined by their success in this school. Luckily enough, Fahran, Raju and Rancho (who are basically the three idiots) were accepted as students of ICE. In development studies and perspectives, all groupings or communities give rise to their own set or sets of elites. In the school, being on top is accorded by the School Director (who looks like Einstein). His position and elitism are all, but tapestries of fear and educational terrorism. Scanning all the subplots will reveal a Rancho who lives to change the world he lives in. His deeds and actions might be tagged as rebellious, as he is known to be coming from a rich family (which are all pure lies, which you will learn towards the end of the film). His ideals in life are quite new and not-so-traditional. But through these, he gets through his daily life with doses of excitement, contentment and gladness. His passion for life is generously emitted and shared to his two friends. He convinces his friend Fahran to follow what he really wants to be in life – to become a wildlife photographer. He tells his other friend, Raju, to live not in fear. For many instances in the film, he is able to demonstrate his capability and personality as a true friend amidst good and bad times of their lives. The friendship he shares with Raju and Fahran is unquestionably sincere, definitive and heartwarming. His love for Pia forms a significant plot on the story. It is not really the love-at-first-sight type sprouted from the best seeds that Cupid can offer. One of the realities that really struck me is suicide among students. Students commit suicide if they fail at the last minute. Movies can portray it as extreme as blaming it to rotten educational systems. More and more students kill themselves for nonsense reasons and the most apparent of these is that they could not graduate. Yes, being not able to graduate is really frustrating, especially when you think that you have moved with the green traffic light. Statements like "I quit" are alarming as the world becomes more and more competitive and flooded with graduates of the highest qualification from high-calibre universities. I think, the world has stopped focusing on the humane side of existence. Bosses (including teachers) are focused on the tempting idea of propagating citizens of over-the-edge abilities. People failed to realise that life is not all about numbers and competitions or acquired skills. We forget that life is life. No one or nothing can define it. If life has no life, then it’s no life. | Category: | Movies | | Genre: | Action & Adventure |
I can't stop thinking how gorgeous the robots transform from vehicles in 3D. This gave me the urge to go and attack IMAX at SM Mall of Asia one Sunday morning with my bestfriend. We opted for the first screening since the movie lasts for about three hours. When we got there, just outside the theatre, I was astonished by the number of people forming a single pile.
At 9:30 AM, the guards opened the gate. We took the line for available tickets. We were excited. How good was the guard for dropping the bomb? He shouted, Sold out na ang tiket. For next week na po ang ibinebenta." And Jerry was very eager to get out immediately to catch before the show starts at Filinvest Alabang. I told him to stay in the line and hope for available seats.
There you go, there were vacant seats at rows A and B. I was hesitant to buy because it would be very near to the screen. But when the film started to roll, oh my good Lord! What a view!
And yes, Ironhide was killed by the ever-playful Sentinel Prime. Carly (played by Angel Rosie) was bouncing here and gyrating there with more than five stars. I love this film more than the Part 2 because the story has substance. And the musical score is nice. Just grab your tickets now and listen to Optimus Prime with his death-defying line, You may lose your faith on us, but never lose your faith in yourself. | Category: | Movies | | Genre: | Drama |
I was scouring through the reviews I have done when this film came to my mind. I immediately checked my Review page only to be surprised that I did not write something about Okuribito.
The title appealed to me and the poster intrigued me. Since the English title is Departures, I immediately thought it to be sad and heart-wrenching. The theme of the movie has never been tackled in any film, leastwise to my knowledge. And while browsing the Wikipedia information for the film, I found out that it won as the Best Foreign Language Film at the 81st Oscars. Films of this calibre always intrigue me so when it was handed to me, I never had a nick of doubt.
I can't say anything better than this, "This is a great film."
Some people loudly criticise fellows who line up inside the kingdom of the Green Mother. They defragmentise the morale of those wanting to buy 150-peso coffee. They discourage those who religiously fill-up their sticker cards for next year's planner. And I say, whether you have the money or not, you don't have the right to say that the people buying the coffee are social climbers, pretending to be well-off in front of others who are obviously inggit. We have the money. Now, you cry in despair sipping your 3-in-1 coffee.
